Online Shopping Around The Nation

Categories: Online Shopping  |   No Comments

Online retails sales are seeing double digit increases every year over the previous year. Those numbers are expected to continue into the unforeseen future. We usually talk about the numbers in the US, but we can’t overlook one of the biggest potential markets in the world. The middles class Chinese have developed a taste for brand name products. The consumer market as we know it has only recently developed in China. Research has shown that consumers in Shanghai are looking at brick and mortar branded stores as showrooms rather than a place to buy. The online retail sale world in China is still in its infancy as compared to other countries around the world. Even with that said, China’s online sales totaled 82 billion dollars in 2010. That happens to be a 95% increase over the year before. So you can see what China will add to the online sales numbers when they mature.

Online stores carry everything that the middle class Chinese want and need. This is especially important because retailers in China have been unable to keep up with urban sprawl. The online market is no different in China really, than it is in the US where we can buy everything from apparel and cigars to Mitsubishi Parts and Hyundai Parts online. In China, auto parts may be for different cars and trucks but the concept and availability is the same. China will probably develop into the biggest online market in the world and it seems the Chinese have a more firm trust in the internet than we have here in the US.

So the forecasts for China are out of this world; so to speak. There were 137 million Chinese on the internet as of 2009 and that number jumps about 18 percent each year. China will soon catch up and pass the number of internet users in the US. One online company in China has 30,000 online stores and sells 53.000 items per minute. With numbers like that the retail landscape is forever changed and in China. It barely got started before technology helped change the way we do business and live our lives. It becomes even more mind boggling when you think about the online populations of India and other Asian countries. The online retail business is not going away and retailers who are taking advantage of the online market are reaping the benefits along with the pure click companies that do not have storefronts.

So do we know what the retail landscape will look like in the next 5-10 years? It may vary from region to region by one thing is for sure, the online retail sales will be a very large part, if not the largest part of all retail sales around the world. Get those mobile devices ready, keep that laptop with you and don’t forget you Kindle when you go on vacation because all these items are and will continue to be part of the retail world for a long time.

Shopping with Your Mobile Devices

Categories: Online Shopping  |   No Comments

Mobile devices have become a part of the online retail landscape here in the US very rapidly. How does m-Commerce shape up in other regions of the world?  While the US adapts to the use of mobile devices to shop online no other region around the world has embraced m-Commerce more than Asia. In one survey 68% of Asians indicated that they preferred making payment over their mobile devices. The Chinese with 76% were the most receptive to e-Commerce followed by India at 75%, Korea at 56% and Japan at 46%. As you can see these markets are huge and are contributing to the rise on online sales numbers each year.

Mobile devices can perform many functions that you wouldn’t think of immediately. You scan a bar code on an item and get more information about what you’re looking at. You can get a digital ticket for an event or receive a coupon. You can also receive digital gift cards, a fairly new technology. When surveyed, 47% of Chinese consumers indicated they had used m-Commerce in the last six months and 33% of Japanese consumers responded that they did.  Thirty eight percent of Asian consumers have used the bar code scan to get more information about a product and 36% used digital tickets for an event or to board a flight.

So as you can see mobile device are a big part of the online retail landscape. Online stores big and small can reap the benefits as they adapt the technology and consumers view their mobile device friendly page. Whether sell jeep parts and Dodge ram parts or handbag and apparel m-Commerce will add to your arsenal of sales tools and show great rewards. The use of mobile devices is everywhere and the technology seems to improve every time we turn around. The device you bought today is obsolete in a few years and the cycle of innovation begins again. The online retail world is on the cutting edge of that technology and seems to respond quickly. If you are a merchant and have an online store you need to adapt quickly as well because the consumer is knowledgeable and will demand the latest technology be available from your website.

The retail online industry is a brand new economy as economies go and the m-Commerce channel has really just started making a big impact. From what we know and from what we have seen in the past, the best is yet to come. Convenience, pricing and service will always be the consumers chant. The consumer won’t compromise on those three things and it’s up to the online retail industry to respond in a positive fashion. Thus far the industry has done a great job and the consumer has let them know by purchasing more and more online each year.

There is no limit to what can take place with m-Commerce in the next 5 years or so. The industry will reinvent itself probably three times over as technology changes the rules.
